![]() Dorothy Downs Dorothy Downs is an art historian who has curated exhibitions of Florida Seminole and Miccosukee Indian art at several South Florida art institutions. She is the author of Art of the Florida Seminole and Miccosukee Indians. For the Florida Humanities Council Speakers Bureau, she lectured on Florida Indian patchwork. A founder of the Tribal Arts Society of the Lowe Art Museum at the University of Miami, she has held the office of president for several terms. Downs has served as registrar at the Lowe and taught Native American art history in the Department of Art and Art History at the University of Miami. Her articles and photographs have been published in Native Peoples Magazine, American Indian Art Magazine, Piecework, Florida Anthropologist, and The Miami Herald. She has written and produced a PBS television documentary, "Patterns of Power." Home |
