Jerald T. Milanich

Jerald T. Milanich, author and curator at the Florida Museum of Natural History (http://www.flmnh.ufl.edu), is interested in the archaeology and history of native peoples of the Americas, especially the impact of European colonization. Presently he serves on the editorial board of Archaeology magazine and as series editor for three University Press of Florida book series: Ripley P. Bullen Publications in Caribbean and Southeastern United States Archaeology; Native American Peoples, Cultures, and Places of the Southeastern United States; and Southeastern Classics in Archaeology, Anthropology, and History.

His recent books include: First Encounters – Spanish Explorations in the Caribbean and the United States, 1492-1570 (1989); Hernando de Soto and the Florida Indians (1993); Archaeology of Precolumbian Florida (1994), Florida Indians and the Invasion from Europe (1995), The Timucua (1996), Florida Indians from Ancient Times to the Present (1998), and Laboring in the Fields of the Lord, Spanish Missions and the Southeastern Indians (1999).
