Wiley L. Housewright

Wiley L. Housewright is professor emeritus and former dean of the School of Music at Florida State University. He is the author of A History of Music and Dance in Florida, 1565-1865, published by the University of Alabama Press in 1991. His Anthology of Music in Early Florida will be published by the University Press of Florida in 1999. He co-edited six textbooks of the Birchard Music Series in 1961. He chaired the Music Educators Journal's editorial board for eight years.

He was a Fulbright scholar to Japan and Korea in 1956-57. He has served on advisory panels to the U.S. Department of State, the Ford Foundation, American Council of Learned Societies, U.S. National Commission for UNESCO, the International Society for Music Education, and the National Association of Schools of Music.

He has been guest professor at Indiana University and University of Michigan. His studies in musicology were with Kurt Sachs, Carleton Sprague Smith and Hans David.
